The Quilt of JoyI wrote this personal essay in 2018 after remember one of my favorite assignments from high school. Choosing the moments to include in this essay was difficult because it forced me to think of moments that I felt the most joy. (Photo not mine).

Please, Tell Adam I Won't Be ApologizingThis poem is a ode to Eve from the story of Adam and Eve. I was never raised religious but coming from a religious family I have always critiqued elements of it. That being said, some of the best stories ever written come from the bible -- one being that of Adam and Eve. In this, I strip Eve of the shame placed on her and allow her to take back the narrative of the story. (Photo included not mine).

Google Search: Why Are Butterfly Chrysalises Gold? This poem came from a simple Google search: why are butterfly chrysalises sealed in a gold fluid? (Photo included not mine).

The Sun Shines Brightest on WednesdayI wrote this poem about the birth of my niece who was set to be born on a Wednesday in late July. I picked her name -- Solana, which means sunshine in Spanish. I also chose the day Wednesday because in the bible, it was said that God created the sun and the moon on the fourth day of the week -- Wednesday. She ended up being born on a Friday, but I had already wrote the poem.

Shape-shifting CloudsI wrote this poem about my late great-grandmother. Often when we visited my brother and I would run outside and stare at the clouds, seeing what shapes they could make. I wanted to evoke that childish and youth voice that reflects the same childlike imagination that comes with staring at the clouds. (Photo included not mine).

My Mom Says I'm a HorderThis poem came after my mom called to tell me she cleaned out my closet at her house. She was not happy about my bottle collection, to say the least. (Photo included not mine).
